President Deb Rhodes welcomed Rotarians and guests to the regular morning club meeting at the HMC Doctors' Dining Room.  Matt Willis provided our invocation.  We had an excellent attendance today!  Thanks to everyone who made it to the meeting.  We were particularly honored to have Marlin Rose with us, who had been sidelined for a few months.  Great to have you with us, Marlin!

Deb reminded everyone our District Governor, Tom Kokensparger from Lancaster, will be making his official visit to Gallipolis Rotary on August 4 this year.  In preparation, ADG Lee Hubbard will be with us on July 22nd to pave the way and to meet with club officers and directors.  Each committee chair and officer will need to have a brief written report for Lee at this meeting.

New Club Banner--Secretary Chuck spoke briefly about the new club banner that we are ordering.  The trading banner will display a full color image of the bandstand in the park and is the first update in many years.  The banner company has moved over to digital and required the club to submit new artwork.  Chuck has taken over 100 images over the past several months to capture the essence of the landmark to represent our community. It will be a unique item for years to come.  He is thinking now how to use the image on our club's new website!

New Paul Mossman Fellow--Our newest Paul Mossman Fellow isMargaret Evans receives Paul Mossman Award Margaret Evans!  Margaret has had Treasurer Katrinka Hart bill her a few dollars each month over the past several months to finally achieve the $500 donation to the local club foundation.  Margaret will now proudly wear the unique gold badge as her Rotary badge.
Shirley Doss receives Rotary blue badge.
Shirley Doss received her permanent blue Rotary badge from President Debbie today.  Shirley has been busy to make sure all the Red Badge requires were met.  Congratulations, Shirley!  And, thanks, for performing 'cleanup' at the Rotary Mile on Saturday picking up the three participants who needed a little extra help.

Split-The-Pot--Dan Whiteley ran STP for the meeting and the lucky winner of the $7 small pot was MARLIN ROSE!  Marlin pocketed the small pot, but a club malfunction postponed the drawing for the 'big one' of $7 until we get a new deck of cards!

Fellowship--Lou Ellen Werry ran club fellowship for the meeting and collected a few fines for missing badges, pins, or tardiness.  We had several Happy Bucks today--Mel Simon announced a new grandson, Zack Simon! Marlin Rose contributed a happy buck just to be back at Rotary!  And, Dan Whiteley bought a happy buck in honor of his grandson who won his class at  Saturday's Rotary Mile!  Lou Ellen concluded fellowship with some interesting travel facts since this is vacation season.

David Smith and Bonnie McFarlandNew Member Induction--Today our club honored David K. Smith, local entrepreneur and county commissioner, as our newest Gallipolis Rotarian. Dave comes into the club under the classification of Dentist.  Matt Willis performed the ritual of introducing the Object of Rotary to our new member. Dave excelled in his task of reading the text.  Next, Dan Whiteley reviewed the background of the Rotary 4-Way Test, which our club recites to open each meeting.  Finally, Dave's sponsor, Bonnie McFarland, presented the Rotary pin and badge of membership and welcomed Dave into the club.

Program--Our program this morning was introduced by Ken Moore, of the Holzer Center for Cancer Care, who introduced Dr. Grae L. Schuster, MD, who is the radiation oncologist for the center.  Dr. Schuster is a graduate of Dartmouth Medical School and comes to Gallipolis from Lincoln, NE.  Dr. Schuster remarked he is looking to help the center move forward and emphasized the center provides excellent care for the community and region.  A new focus for the center will be on early stage breast cancer care, where the patient can take all the necessary treatments in a 10 day period, instead of over several months.  An interesting Q & A followed Dr. President Deb, Dr. Grae Schuster, and Ken MooreSchuster's remarks particularly focusing on the use of cyberknife in surgery procedures and specific treatment protocols.  All in all it was a very interesting program for Gallipolis Rotary.  Thank you, Ken and Dr. Schuster for the great program.  President Debbie gave our speaker a Gallipolis Rotary mug and the meeting was adjourned.
