| President Deb Rhodes
welcomed Rotarians and guests to the regular morning club meeting at
the HMC Doctors' Dining Room. Matt Willis provided our
invocation. Again, we had excellent attendance at our meeting! A couple of our 'regulars' are on vacation. It was great seeing everyone in attendance. Our guests included Honorary Rotarian Ray McKinniss; Frank Dunkle, Program Officer from the Ohio Humanities Council; and George Dauler, Chautauqua Scholar and our program speaker. Next Week's Meeting Is Important--President Deb reminded club members that next week's club assembly is an important meeting to attend. Any directors or officers who cannot make the meeting need to contact Deb about their respective club responsibilities. Gallia Junior Fair Project--Denise Shockley briefed the club on our new project assisting the fair board with the Junior Fair Livestock Princesses. This is a great new project and Denise has asked any members who would like to help, please attend the festivities on Saturday, July 19th, at 5 pm. Bonnie's Coin Box--Bonnie McFarland's club record for the most dollars stuffed into a single coin box is secure with the announced results of Bonnie's latest achievement. Treasurer Katrinka Hart announced the final tally of the incredibly heavy and overstuffed box, which was reinforced with tape to keep it from falling apart, contained an amazing total of $94.25!!! Way to go, Bonnie! An impromptu pinning--President Deb took the occasion to recognize VP and President-Elect Bonnie McFarland with a pinning of the official President-Elect pin. Bonnie will fill in for President Deb during Rotary Year 2008-2009 and then officially takes over next July 1st! We look forward to two incredible Rotary years. |
Split-The-Pot--Katrinka
ran STP for the meeting today and the small pot was $7 and the large
pot was $14. Today's lucky ticket holder was Jim Morrison.
Jim missed the 'big one' by drawing the seven of clubs. Jim
appropriately named the fine for anyone NOT wearing the Rotary SCUBA
group pin. Good one! Fellowship--Lou Ellen Werry ran club fellowship and collected fines for missing badges, pins, or latecomers. Greg Sojka bought a Happy Buck to celebrate the recently successful University of Rio Grande Alumni Capital Campaign. Lou Ellen concluded fellowship with an interesting compare and contrast exercise of prison life with work life! Program--Rotarian Bob Hood introduced our program for the morning by first Honorary Rotarian Ray McKinniss for his contribution to life in Gallia county of the Chautauqua concept. Ray shanghi'd Bob a couple of years ago to experience the program in another community. This year marks our community's second week-long Chautauqua. Bob also acknowledged the support of important community-minded sponsors such as the Super 8 Motel, Foodland, Ohio Valley Bank, Bob Evans Farms, the Ariel Theater, and Bossard Library who have all helped to make this a great event. Bob then introduced our speaker for the morning, George Dauler, Scholar and presenter for Ohio Chautauqua. George spoke of the history of Chautauqua, having received its name from the original Chautauqua that still continues in western NY. Similar Chautauqua's continue at Lakeside, OH and Bayview, MI.
